Fashion Atelier Certificate Programme (FACP) 2024/25 Transforming Fashion Design with 3D Innovation Cutting
Refined cutting skills are essential for Hong Kong’s fashion industry to achieve global recognition on par with international leaders. Mastery of cutting techniques enables the creation of high-quality, perfectly fitted designs with artistic flair.
The Fashion Atelier Certificate Programme (FACP) 2024/25 aims to elevate the industry by enhancing professionals’ technical expertise through elite training. This year’s programme, "Transforming Fashion Design with 3D Innovation Cutting," was led by three distinguished Masters:
-
Shingo Sato (Creator of TR Cutting)
-
Reagen Evans (UK Haute Couture Designer)
-
Michael Stewart (Irish Designer, 2024 LVMH Savoire Faire Award Winner)
Each Master conducted a dedicated Master Course, as well as delivering Demonstration Workshops and an exclusive Master Talk, significantly expanding participants’ expertise in 3D cutting and creative draping.
Inspired by visionaries like Alexander McQueen, Azzedine Alaïa, and Thierry Mugler, who revolutionised fashion with sculptural silhouettes through draping, FACP 2024/25 equips participants with cutting-edge techniques. Spanning from November 2024 to January 2025, a select group of designers, academics, and pattern makers, chosen via open applications and institutional referrals, took part in this specialised programme. Participants who met performance and attendance requirements received a Certificate, with selected outstanding participants invited to present their work at the Ambassador Forum.
A highlight of the programme was the dual-city exhibition, "Binding Artistry: An Exploration of Print and Form Through Creative Collaboration," held at CentreStage in Hong Kong. This exhibition showcased the fusion of print and 3D cutting through collaborative works by renowned designer Rob Curry and Textile Print Master Simon Ungless. The exhibition will also be presented at Shanghai Fashion Week in March 2025, featuring Michael Stewart, whose participation will enhance its impact by showcasing his award-winning LVMH collection alongside the original Hong Kong exhibition pieces.
Additionally, to further extend the programme’s impact, a series of educational videos, media interviews, presentations, and Masters’ teaching archives were curated, ensuring the wider dissemination of key insights and expertise.
By merging traditional craftsmanship with modern innovation, FACP 2024/25 continues to strengthen creative leadership within Hong Kong’s fashion industry, unlocking the limitless potential of 3D cutting to shape the future of fashion design.
