MASTER INSTRUCTOR:
Shingo Sato
Founder of TR Cutting School
Shingo Sato, the Tokyo-based Japanese visionary, has fundamentally transformed garment construction through his pioneering Transformational Reconstruction (TR) and 3D cutting techniques developed across three decades of innovation. His avant-garde designs, featuring futuristic silhouettes and mesmerizing optical illusions, have graced the elite runways of Milan and Paris.
Sato's professional journey began alongside fashion luminaries, serving as technical assistant to Azzedine Alaïa in Paris (1982-1986) where he contributed to the era's defining sculptural forms. At Trussardi in Milan (1986-1990), he refined his craft as a modeliste and pattern maker for their elegant ready-to-wear collections. Throughout the 1990s, his distinctive expertise influenced prestigious Italian labels including Basile, Venturi, Massei, and Dainvest.
The establishment of TR Pattern Design Studio in 2002 marked Sato's commitment to pattern innovation and education. For over 15 years, he has shared his transformative techniques through workshops and classes at leading fashion institutions across 30+ countries. His multilingual fluency—Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, French, English, and Japanese—enables him to inspire diverse international audiences.
Sato's signature creations—the Ribbon skirt, Origami dress, and Accordion collar—showcase his mastery of seamless fabric transitions and invisible assembly. Transcending conventional construction, he sculpts garments with complex waves, stripes, and geometric patterns that create stunning three-dimensional effects.
His educational legacy continues through collaborations with prestigious institutions including Central Saint Martins, Atelier Chardon Savard, and Politecnico di Milano, profoundly influencing fashion's next generation. Shingo Sato remains a global catalyst for creativity and innovation in fashion design.
